2013 Subaru BRZ

Last December, our wandering man of intrigue Jonathan Ramsey drove a Subaru BRZ prototype at Japan's Tochigi circuit under somewhat controlled conditions and was nonetheless very impressed. Then, in that same month, SoCal lad Michael Harley - he who knows a thing or two about hot-footing it on closed circuits - took the practically identical Scion FR-S for many unfettered laps on the island's short and sweet Sodegaura Forest Raceway. He, too, was left extremely…

2013 Subaru BRZ -- The Masters Of AWD Nail RWD

A couple of years ago we passed the point at which there were no more truly bad cars. If someone asked us, "Which car should we definitely avoid," it was hard to give a categorical answer. Sure, there were cars we didn't (and still don't) like, but no matter how personally averse we might be to even some current cars, we can't name one that's objectively awful.

Naturally, then, if everything…

2013 Subaru BRZ - 2011 Tokyo Auto Show

For an automaker that has made its name building all-wheel-drive cars, Subaru has caused a lot of buzz at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show with a rear-drive model. It helps that it's the long-awaited sports car jointly developed with Toyota, which will sell it as the Scion FR-S. Subaru claims credit for the engineering of the car, with each company doing its own fine tuning and, of course, exterior and interior design.

First Drive: 2012 Subaru Impreza [Review]

Subaru, one might say, is on a heck of a roll. The slightly offbeat automaker's market share today is double what it was just three years ago, but that doesn't mean that there weren't some weaknesses in its product portfolio.

Perhaps the brand's most glaring fault? A perpetually under-performing compact sedan that never had the features, the finish or the finesse to make segment rivals quiver.

That was then, and this…
