Design
The Subaru Crosstrek has a bold stance and enhanced body cladding that support its trail-ready claims. Competitors like the Mazda CX-30 and Hyundai Kona look a little too fancy to brave off-road adventures, and the similarly styled Chevy Trax misses the mark with a lower ground clearance than the Crosstrek, which is as high as 9.3 inches on the rugged Wilderness model.
Performance & Capabilities
The Subaru Crosstrek is equipped with a standard 152-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder or an 182-horsepower 2.5-liter engine, depending on the trim level. Standard symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard across the board, as well as a continuously variable transmission. While the Mazda CX-30 offers slightly more powerful engine options and standard all-wheel drive, you'll pay a lot more for similar capabilities. The Chevy Trax is front-wheel drive only and is the weakest of the competitors listed here. The Hyundai Kona has a weaker standard engine and only offers all-wheel drive as a more expensive add-on.
