Go above and beyond expectations with the new Subaru Outback at Grayson Subaru. The rugged wagon brings off-road capabilities, confident handling, and more features for less than you might expect. But how does it compare against popular options like the Toyota RAV-4, Audi A4 Allroad, or Honda CR-V? Our team takes deep dive into the Outback's excellent features to see why it should be your number one choice.

Subaru Outback

Discover a world beyond your usual limits with the remarkable power, advanced safety features, and spacious comfort of the Subaru Outback. With its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, you can conquer any terrain with absolute confidence. And with cutting-edge technology like wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, your journeys are bound to be more exhilarating than ever before. You can count on the durability of the Outback, as demonstrated by the fact that 97% of vehicles sold in the last decade are still cruising the roads today, more than Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, or Hyundai Santa Fe. Choose a Subaru Outback and embark on adventures that will last a lifetime.

Rugged Design

The Subaru Outback is technically a station wagon, but it blends right in with the rest of the rugged Subaru SUV lineup. The longer and shorter dimensions make it easy to load and unload while fitting up to five passengers comfortably and offering enough versatility to move longer items. The Audi A4 Allroad has a similar body style but does not offer the robust body cladding that helps protect the Outback when venturing off the beaten path. Additionally, the Outback has an enhanced ground clearance to help it move swiftly over deeply rutted roads or rocky terrain. Comparable SUVs like the Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CR-V sit closer to the ground, which impacts approach and departure angles, which means they can't go as far as the Subaru Outback.

*9.5 inches of ground clearance only available on Wilderness trim. Standard ground clearance is 8.7 inches on all other trim levels.

Performance & Capabilities

The Subaru Outback has either a standard 182-horsepower or upgraded 260-horsepower engine with standard symmetrical all-wheel drive. Only the Audi A4 Allroad offers a slightly more powerful engine option and standard all-wheel drive. However, the Audi A4 Allroad does not share the Outback's off-road-ready equipment, and it is much more expensive. The Toyota RAV 4 and Honda CR-V come with standard front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive as an available upgrade.

Technology & Safety

All but the base Subaru Outback have a large 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™. The user-friendly screen with large icons is much easier to use than competitors who offer smaller screens. Most competitors also include similar safety and driver assistance technology like the Outback's EyeSight suite, but the Audi A4 Allroad will have you pay extra for certain features like adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

A Smart Investment

With its unique package of capable features, owning an Outback pays off now as well as down the road thanks to its reliable and durable Subaru engineering. It's even easier on your wallet than the competition: According to the experts at IntelliChoice, the Subaru Outback is a SmartChoice for Cost of Ownership and Fuel Costs - lower than the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Bronco Sport, or Toyota 4Runner.

Tough, Sophisticated Style

With its rugged features like protective cladding and raised ground clearance, the Outback exudes a sense of readiness for all your adventures. The contrasting trim, chrome accents, and flowing lines all work together to create a modern, sophisticated style that commands attention wherever you go. The Subaru Outback is not just a vehicle, it is a vehicle designed to take you everywhere your heart desires.

Up to 9.5 Inches of Ground Clearance* and X-MODE®

With up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance and standard X-MODE, the Outback is a midsize SUV that can take you almost anywhere. X-MODE works by optimizing the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system for maximum traction on slippery surfaces and Hill Descent Control gives you extra stability and confidence when descending more difficult grades.

X-MODE standard on: All trims
Dual-function X-MODE standard on: Onyx Edition, Onyx Edition XT, Wilderness

*9.5 inches of ground clearance only available on Wilderness trim. Standard ground clearance is 8.7 inches on all other trim levels.

3,500-Pound Towing Capacity

With up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity and an available accessory trailer hitch, the Subaru Outback lets you bring all the bikes, kayaks, or other gear you need to make your adventures even better.

Standard on: Onyx Edition XT, Wilderness, Limited XT, Touring XT

Comfortable and Flexible Cabin

The Subaru Outback is a 5-seater SUV that offers long-distance comfort and high-tech convenience for every passenger. The available 12-way power front driver's seat includes a four-way power lumbar adjustment and cargo pockets on the back of each front seat help you keep small items organized. Front and back passengers can access available USB-C charging ports in addition to the traditional USB-A ports for future device compatibility. In back, the rear gate has an available integrated LED lamp to help illuminate cargo as well as the area behind the Outback. There's also soft genuine Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel all available for a premium experience on every trip.

Passenger and Cargo Space

The Subaru Outback is a midsize SUV that gives you up to 109 cubic feet of roomy passenger comfort in both the front and rear seats. It's a 5-seater SUV with more passenger space than the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Even full of passengers, you still get 32.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The available cargo area release levers make it even easier to fold the rear seats down, giving you up to 75.6 cubic feet of volume to haul more gear. Loading all that cargo is a cinch with the available Hands-Free Power Rear Gate, which allows automatic opening even when your arms are full and lets you close and lock the entire vehicle with a single touch of the gate button.

Crash Protection for Every Passenger

The Subaru Outback is built on the Subaru Global Platform, which uses high-strength steel for enhanced crash safety, long-lasting quality, and a quieter cabin. The Outback also features eight airbags, height-adjustable head restraints in every seating position, and a ring-shaped reinforcement frame as standard equipment to help provide all-around impact protection.
